shelf life of your makeup
OK so we are all guilty of having makeup sitting in our drawers that we havent worn for years… But chances are if your hanging onto products that are past their used by dates they will not work to their full potential and you run the risk of contamination! YUK..
Basically cosmetics contain preservatives that are added to ensure they do not breed bacteria. Worse case scenario is a rash or skin breakout, this is not very common.. but it is something to be aware of when your next going through your makeup.
We’ve put together a basic guideline for you. Keep in mind all products/brands are different but it is important to have a basic idea.
MASCARA - 3-6 months
FOUNDATION & CONCEALERS - 12-18 months
POWDER PRODUCTS - 2 years
CREAM PRODUCTS - 12-18 months
PENCILS - 2-3 years
LIPSTICK - 2 years
LIPGLOSS - 18-24 months
IF YOU HAVE HAD ANY OF THE ABOVE PRODUCTS FOR LONGER THAN YOU SHOULD… THROW THEM AWAY AND RESTOCK YOUR KIT AT rsp cosmetics ;)
